Remembrances of Halloweens Past

Jamie and me as Mick and Keith

Ah Halloween. As a kid with a very active imagination, I loved brainstorming costumes for Halloween. The brainstorming would start around August or before. Of course I could never be something normal like a princess or a cat…My costume picks were as unique as giant-glasses-wearing me. One year I went as Louisa May Alcott, the author of my beloved Little Women (in a previous post, I mentioned how I forced my family to go on a pilgrimage to her house in Concord for vacation). The next year, I went as Jo March, the main character of, you guessed it, Little Women. I would get so angry when people didn’t know who I was (“How can you not tell from my 19th century dress that I am Louisa May Alcott?”). My favorite recent costume has been Keith Richards to Jamie’s Mick Jagger (circa the late 1960s). It speaks volumes about us that we went as androgynous rock stars (complete with velvet pants) when our peers were trying to decide if they wanted to go as a sexy nurse or sexy firefighter. Not that those are bad costumes–we are just that weird.

What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid or adult?
