More Proof That My Boyfriend is Nick Miller (from “New Girl”

yolo

As I’ve previously noted, my boyfriend Kevin is like Nick Miller from “New Girl.” Like Nick, he’s fun-loving and hilarious, but also can easily turn into a cranky old man who is out of touch with “youth culture.” This weekend I encountered another awesome moment that further proves my point. When Erin, Kevin, and I went to see “Gravity,” Kevin said that getting two nachos and a large popcorn was too much, that we couldn’t eat it. Since it was my birthday, I replied “Yolo.” Kevin looked at me strangely and was like “what?? What does that mean?” I thought he had misheard me, as YOLO is so well known now, especially among non-olds. However, clearly I had forgotten that Kevin is now 28 years old and out of touch with reality. I repeated it and he still was confused. He had no idea what it meant! I explained that it was a super popular phrase and now even older people (excluding cranky ones like Kevin) were using it! He insisted that it clearly wasn’t THAT popular and that it was a stupid saying. Basically, he had the exact reaction that Nick Miller would have had over it. It basically made my day.

  1. maybe it is just a guy thing…they get SO focused on work or whatever they are out of touch with reality or popular culture…which is clearly why they need that all-important-significant other…whatever age they are. 🙂
sorry, J, yes, I follow your blog now…kl
