Wild Horses

One of our all time favorite movies is the Rolling Stones documentary Gimme Shelter. Directed by David and Albert Maysles (who did the equally classic documentary, Grey Gardens), the movie follows the Stones on their US tour during 1969, ending in the disaster that was the Altamont concert (or Evil Woodstock, as I like to call it). This scene as the Stones listen to the recording of “Wild Horses” is one that I come back to again and again. It strips away all the glamour of these rock stars who are arguably at their pinnacle. Even the enigma that is Mick Jagger appears more vulnerable and human than he often allows himself to be on stage or in public (perhaps because of the drama going on in his personal life with girlfriend, the badass Marianne Faithfull). The best thing about it though, in my opinion, is Keith Richards lip-syncing while wearing a pair of amazing velvet pants. Am I seriously the only one so attracted to young Keith?
