The Movie You Watch Over and Over Again

Natalie Portman recently told Elle UK that “Dirty Dancing” is one of her favorite movies. I don’t blame her. Swayze, dancing, the fact that Jennifer Grey gave us all hope that we too could make a beautiful dancing instructor fall in love with us by our sheer awkwardness on the dance floor…I get it, Portman. I think everyone has that movie that they watch when they are sad, happy, sick, or just plain bored. For me it is “Little Women.” I had a childhood fascination–okay, obsession is perhaps more apt–with Louisa May Alcott. In elementary school, I even dragged my entire family on a pilgrimage to Alcott’s house (Orchard House) in Concord, MA. I have been watching that movie since it was on VHS. I recently had to upgrade to the DVD. There is something about it.

What is your “Dirty Dancing”?

  1. I’ve found myself rewatching Moonrise Kingdom lately as well. That film was a favorite for me since the first time I seen it.
