I am always on the lookout for a well written historical novel. I spend a lot of time on Amazon sifting through the mire trying to find ones that may be worth reading. The Last Queen: A Novel looks like something right up my alley. It centers around Juana of Castile, who you may know better as Juana la Loco (the Mad). Her family should sound familiar as well: her parents were Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain and her elder sister was Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife who he famously he discarded for Anne Boleyn. Juana’s story is just as tragic as Catherine’s with intriguing details that set her apart along the way: her royal marriage a rare case of passion in such arrangements, her sudden appointment as the heir to the throne of Castile and Aragon, the long embittered fight to claim her throne….For fans of the Tudor era or strong historical women, Juana is certainly a Queen worth knowing.
