Blue Jasmine

On Friday I went to see the new Woody Allen flick Blue Jasmine. Cate Blanchett can do no wrong in my book (seriously, that woman can act! She could play Walter Kronkite and be believable!). Needless to say, she delivers as Jasmine, a suddenly broke New York socialite who must move to San Francisco to live with her adopted sister (played by the always enjoyable Sally Hawkins) until she gets back on her feet. Woody Allen also is at the top of his game, which is nice to see since his movies in the last few years have been unpredictable. He balances the comedic aspects of a wealthy woman reduced to menial jobs with the unsettling drama of watching Jasmine unwind mentally through all her hardship. Not always easy to watch, but worth it.
