Dressing Like an Adult

Before going out on the town, I have a hard time choosing outfits. Maybe it is because my natural inclination is to grab a shirt with a Peter Pan collar, which is about as sexy as the adrogynous Disney character from which the style is named. Being petite and youthful looking, I already have a hard enough time convincing bartenders that I am 24 years old and able to drink that margarita the size of my head. Still, my personal style leans towards classic shapes, clean lines, a splash of French gamine, and collars. See: Sophia Coppola. Not exactly the typical girl on the town look.

The times that I have ignored my crushing desire to wear a collared shirt and instead choose something more, um, revealing or mini, I feel like I am always checking to make sure everything is still in place. Isn’t there a way to feel like “me” while also not looking too conservative?

Do you dress differently when you are going out on the town versus your everyday life?
